Second report from India

By Gaura Keshava Das

Dear Devotees, please accept my dandavat pranams.

Gurudeva arrived with the devotees in Mayapur on 16th of March, 2005. We found accomodation near the Chaitanya Math, in the house of Upendra Prabhu, an old friend of Gurudeva who is preaching in Puerto Rico. Chaitanya Math was established by Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur Prabhupada, and here below is a picture of Sri Sri Guru Gauranga Gandharvika Giridhari.

Guru Maharaja spent his first days inviting sannyasis from all Gaudiya missions for the WVA meeting. (Below Srila Guru Maharaja with Madhusudan Maharaja from Chaitanya Gaudiya Math inviting Hrishikesh Maharaj)

We also had the fortune to meet Srila Bhakti Vaibhav Puri Maharaja. Srila Puri Maharaja mentioned how so many young fellows are attracted by the Krishna consciousness movement, but how many times it is difficult for them to follow sadhana.

On our way to Bagh Bazaar Gaudiya Math we visited Nrsimha pali, were Lord Nrsimha washed his hands after he killed Hiranyakashipu. There Lord Nrsimhadev is still worshipped in his old deity form and right in-front of the temple there is still the lake. (The deity is said to be from previous ages.)

A young devotee accompanied us on our way back to Mayapur.

Srila Guru Maharaja with Arjuna prabhu, Caitya guru prabhu and Balabhadra prabhu on a morning walk towards Chaitanya Math. Nearby is a lake originally called Prthu Kunda. It is an ancient holy place were Prthu Maharaj chastised Mother Bhumi.

"Prthu Maharaj was an empowered incarnation of the Lord who appeared in the Satya yuga to take care of the citizens who were impoverished and starving after the tyrannical reign of the previous king, Maharaja Vena. Prthu Maharaja was levelling the earth to help Mother Bhumi produce the required crops to feed the citizens. When the workers of Prthu Maharaja arrived here they were amazed to see a brilliant effulgence emanating from the ground.

Hearing of this, Maharaja Prthu came here. Perceiving this place to be very special, he became absorbed in meditation and received the darsana of Lord Krishna and His form of Lord Chaitanya. Lord Chaitanya told Prthu Maharaja that this place was Navadvip, His eternal abode. He requested him to excavate a beautiful kunda here and to also keep His future pastimes secret. All of one's sins are destroyed by drinking the water of this kunda and by bathing here, one goes to the supreme abode.

Later when the Sena dynasty was ruling Bengal, King Laksmana Sena had his palace in this area. He had this kunda enlarged and renamed it after his father, Ballal Sena. It is also said that Jayadeva Goswami wrote his Sri Dasavatara-stotra, a beautiful poem glorifying the ten main incarnations of Krishna, on the banks of this kunda."

The Samadhi Mandir of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur Prabhupada with Radha-kunda in-front of it.
